Public Nomination Process for Hall of Fame’s

7th Class Approaches Completion

 

PHILADELPHIA February 10, 2010 – The Public Nomination process for the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame’s Inductee Class VII is continues.  Hundreds of nominees have been submitted as the deadline of February 15, 2010 approaches.

As part of its selection process, the Hall of Fame relies heavily on input from fans.  Nominations are submitted online, via email, or through the US Mail. 

As the nomination process nears a close, those garnering significant support are Eagles greats Bob Brown and Tom Brookshier, Phillies great Dick Allen and basketball coaches Bill “Speedy” Morris and Geno Auriemma.  Others garnering significant support are long-time MLB umpire Henry “Shag” Crawford, local soccer legend and member of 1948 US Olympic Soccer team Bennie McLaughlin and longtime Roman Catholic football coach Joseph “Goldie” Graham.

“Public nominations give the fans a voice in our selection process.  The Philadelphia sports fan’s depth and breadth of knowledge never ceases to amaze as we consistently receive nominations from all sports at every level of competition - amateur to pro”, said Hank McColgan, member of the Hall’s Board of Trustees.

 

Top public nominees each year are included on the ballot, to be mailed to the Hall’s blue-ribbon voting body in March.

 

Submissions are accepted at http://www.phillyhall.org/submit_nom.asp , via email (nominees@phillyhall.net) or paper mail to:  Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, 919 N. 5th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123.  All nominations must include the nominee's accomplishments and/or contributions along with the submitter’s contact information including name, address and email.

 

The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame is open to athletes, coaches, media, administrators and other contributors in all areas of professional, college, amateur, high school and youth sports.  Candidates must have been born in or performed in the Philadelphia area and meet certain eligibility requirements in order to be considered.
